Our History

Community members Bill Evans and Martha Sharon, 2007 graduates  of the program continued their discussion by sponsoring a community meeting where the question was asked  What is needed?

From that meeting, L.I.T.E. – Lopez Island Teen Events was born.  A collaborative effort between Lopez Family Resource Center and San Juan Tobacco Prevention Program, L.I.T.E. began providing a series of fun and safe activities for youth.

This effort to create a sustainable safe and healthy environment for youth to thrive,  was the beginning collaboration to develop a coalition of community partners. Community leaders began to collaborate in efforts to deepen their impact on strengthening the families of Lopez, building resiliency in youth and optimizing the benefits of a healthy community environment.

To increase and leverage resources directed at creating a safe, healthy environment for families and youth to thrive, the Lopez Island Prevention Coalition applied for the Drug Free Community Support Grant. We have had grant funding since 2009!
